2014 THE GREAT FULL MOON FESTIVAL

Jeongwol Daeboreum, literally translates to the largest and brightest full moon of the year, refers to the fifteenth day of the lunar calendar.
There are lots of traditions and customs associated with Daeboreum, like drinking gwibalgisul (earsharpening alcohol), deowipalgi (selling summer heat), eating yakbap (medicinal rice) and ogokbap (fivegrain rice), cracking bureom (nuts), flying kites to ward off misfortune as well as playing jwibulnori (whirling firework). Traditionally on this day, people perform a ritual for the gods of the village and play folk games such as, juldarigi (tug of war), daribalgi (By stepping on the bridge, people have faith in the health of their legs) and byeotgaridae saewugi (piling sheaves of rice in the shape of cone) in town.
