Wishing for the successful hosting of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Winter Games, held from Feb. 9 to 25, 2018 in Pyeongchang, Gangneung and Jeongseon, the Korea Craft & Design Foundation and the National Folk Museum of Korea will jointly hold a special exhibition on Korean culture under the title, 《A JOY of SPRING: Scenery, Blossom and Delicacy》.

The warmth of spring finally arrives in Korea when the spring breeze begins to blow through the mountains in Gangwon-do Province. After the coldness of the winter season finally subsides, fresh sprouts, holding the energy of the mountains, can be observed everywhere. The local cuisines of the mountainous regions of Gangwon-do have a piquant yet pleasant scent of vegetation and natural flavors, in addition to evoking the beautiful local landscapes.

At the exhibition, we will capture the essence of spring by presenting a table full of local dishes of Gangwon-do made using fresh and locally grown seasonal ingredients, along with the spring flowers. In order to shed light on the style and flavors of Gangwon-do, known for the exquisite natural scenery of the mountains and the sea as well as the kind and generous local people, a wide range of folk artifacts, contemporary crafts with traditional elements, and contemporary artworks will be on display at the exhibition, where visitors can also take part in cultural programs to learn more about the delectable dishes unique to Gangwon-do Province.
