Like the old saying "Unlined trousers in the early months become padded trousers in the late months," the temperature dips dramatically around this time. As such, people prepared for winter. Typical customs in this season include weaving radish stalks or chopping radish or zucchini and leaving them to dry.
There is a saying about "Soseol," "Borrow money to buy the cold of Soseol." For barley growers, cold weather on Soseol was essential for a good harvest. The weather around this time usually gets very cold and windy, and depending on the area, the icy wind blowing on Soseol is called "Sondol Baram" or "Sondol Chuwi." |
